- Same-sex de facto partners provided with most of the entitlements of married partners
- Civil union scheme enacted in 2008 provides same-sex, opposite-sex couples and non-conjugal couples with most of the entitlements as married partners, but no official ceremony. Civil unions from other states not recognised.

- Same-sex partners have access to reproductive technology and can be recognised on birth certificates but do not have parity in adoption and surrogacy
