In good news for supporters of same-sex marriage, images and messages that appeared on the Potential Wedding Album (TPWA) website will soon be hosted on a page on Australian Marriage Equality’s (AME) website after a cyber-attack on the site’s upstream server in early June resulted in its deletion along with thousands of other sites.
A month ago, The Age reported how on June 11, a hacker known as ‘Evil’ got around the lax security systems put in place by Melbourne-based information technology company Distribute.IT to delete countless files and almost 5000 websites registered with the business.
Site coordinator for the Potential Wedding Album, Tanya Smith, said that following a period of consultation and discussion it has been decided that the photos and messages which originally appeared on the site will be transferred to a page on the AME website.
“It’s very disappointing to lose TPWA after all the work that went into it, but the response to the website and albums was fantastic and I’m proud to have made that contribution to the fight for marriage equality in Australia,” Smith said.
“I’m grateful to AME for helping out and pleased that TPWA will continue under its banner.”
AME convener Alex Greenwich told SX that it is “vital” to keep up the excellent work of the group.
