One of the most important initiatives of the Australian marriage equality debate has a new home.

The Potential Wedding Album (TPWA), which highlights over 400 Australian same-sex couples who want to be treated equally by the law and have the option to marry in Australia, is now hosted by Australian Marriage Equality.

The original Potential Wedding Album site was destroyed when Australian hosting company DistributeIT was hacked in June this year (details here)

TPWA coodinator, Tanya Smith, said she is very pleased to see that such a valuable resource is again publicly available.

“Since it was launched in October 2010, TPWA has been a acknowledged as an important force in the marriage equality debate because it illustrates the beauty and diversity of same-sex couples, and shows what marriage equality in Australia could look like”, Ms Smith said.

AME National Convener, Alex Greenwich, said the positive impact of TPWA is a classic case of how a picture is worth a thousand words.

“Lobbyists and advocates like me can quote a hundred studies and statistics but photos and personal stories from everyday Australians are what clinches equality.”

AME IT consultant, Ryan Minty of mintyit.com.au, said it was a huge task recovering and re-presenting such a large data base but is pleased with the results.

“When you’re dealing with something as important as people’s relationships presentation matters. I think we’ve done The Potential Wedding Album justice.”

Ms Smith urged couples who want to be included in the Potential Wedding Album to submit a photograph, and anyone who supports marriage quality to send a supporter message, both of which can be done through the website.
