One of Julia Gillard’s closest confidants, Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor, wants Labor to change its platform on same-sex marriage.
Mr O’Connor said yesterday there should be a “full debate” on the issue when it was raised at the party’s national conference this weekend, but he was yet to make up his mind whether ALP members should be bound by any change to the platform.
“I believe it’s probably time not only for some debate but for some repositioning on this issue,” Mr O’Connor said. “I support a change to the platform but as to whether the party should be bound to any change I don’t have a view on.”
