2012 Dame Roma Mitchell Memorial Lunch: Michael Kirby will address attendees of the 2012 Dame Roma Memorial Lunch on the movement for equal marriage rights, drawing on lessons learnt from the women’s movement for equality.
The annual Dame Roma Mitchell Memorial Lunches are hosted jointly by Victorian Women Lawyers and the LIV to commemorate the life of Dame Roma Mitchell, the first female appointed as Queen’s Counsel, Australian court judge and finally State Governor.

Since his judicial retirement, Michael Kirby was elected president of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia from 2009-2010.
In 2010, he was awarded the Gruber Justice Prize. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Laws of Australia and has been appointed Honorary Visiting Professor by twelve universities. He has been awarded twenty honorary doctorates.
