Marriage Equality advocates have hailed an overwhelming vote by the French parliament in favour of marriage equality saying it may result in the first same-sex marriages in Australia’s region of the world.
Australian Marriage Equality national convener, Rodney Croome, said,
“The overwhelming vote allowing French same-sex couples to marry adds pressure on Australia to do the same, not least because it will mean French dependencies in our region, including New Caledonia and Tahiti, may achieve equality before we do.”
Yesterday the French National Assembly voted 249 to 97 to give in-principle support to same-sex couples marrying.
