Marriage Equality should be an issue for all people considering having children.

Mother’s Day is a day family comes together to celebrate mothers and being part of a family unit.

As expectant mothers, we often wonder what we will have a boy or a girl? We wonder will they be handsome, rich or even a Prime Minister with leadership and vision?

We hardly consider whether the child will be straight or gay, but we should. And we should also consider the life that they’ll lead as a result. On average, one in five families has a loved one who is gay or lesbian so it’s a relevant question.

Mothers Day to me is the day I celebrate having my two wonderful sons and what they mean to me, by making our family complete.

We bring our children into the world to believe it’s a fair and equal society, but regardless of how well we as mothers provide security and stability, we cannot provide them with equality. That’s society’s job and the responsibilities of governments.

Marriage equality should be an issue to us all regardless of socio-economic standing, religion or culture. Any mother can have a gay son or lesbian daughter to love and it’s heart breaking to see our children treated unfairly.

Ms. Gillard, Mr Abbott this is an issue that can be brought back into parliament at anytime, please do so, sooner rather than later. You’ll be doing it not just for gay and lesbian people but for all families.
