.Marriage equality advocates have welcomed a Brazilian court ruling opening the way for same-sex marriages across that country.
Australian Marriage Equality national convener, Rodney Croome, said, “Marriage equality in Brazil is an important step forward because it is the largest nation in the world to allow same-sex couples to marry and one of the world’s most important developing nations.”
“Marriage equality in Brazil highlights how far behind Australia is on this important reform.”
The Brazilian decision follows victory for marriage equality in three US states in the last few days – Rhode Island, Delaware and Minnesota – bringing the total of US states with marriage equality to thirteen. Brazil brings to the number of nations to fourteen.
