In response to Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, calling same-sex marriage a “fashion of the moment” and a “radical change”, marriage equality advocates say there is nothing trendy or radical about love, commitment, family and fairness.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Marriage equality is about love, commitment, family and fairness, all of which are fundamentally important to the majority of Australians.”
“Many members of the Coalition support this reform because they believe in marriage and want same-sex couples to share its benefits.”
“They include high profile federal Liberals like Malcolm Turnbull, Wyatt Roy, Kelly O’Dwyer, Simon Birmingham and Sue Boyce, past and present Liberal Premiers like Barry O’Farrell, Jeff Kennett and Nick Greiner and Melbourne Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle.”
“I call on Mr Abbott to show leadership by allowing a conscience vote on marriage equality.”
