Marriage equality advocates have hailed their #EqualityCalling campaign a success with recorded messages in favour of the reform being listened to over 5000 times by federal MPs and Senators since the campaign’s launch on February 12th.
#EqualityCalling allows supporters of marriage equality to record a message that is automatically called through to the office of their local MP and the Senators from their state who have yet to support the reform. Messages are also highlighted to MPs and Senators on twitter and facebook.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“This is a new departure in the marriage equality campaign so we’re thrilled it’s proven popular among politicians and marriage equality supporters alike.”
“Only a tiny number of MPs have opted out of receiving calls, including Defence Minister, Kevin Andrews, and National Party leader, Warren Truss.”
“Given most politicians want to hear from their constituents, I’d urge any marriage equality supporters who have yet to call #EqualityCalling to do so asap.”
Callers to #EqualityCalling include pop sensation, Ray Isaac and Aria award nominee, Abbe May, who lives in the electorate of Deputy Liberal leader, Julie Bishop. Their messages can be heard below.
#EqualityCalling is a partnership between Australian Marriage Equality and Ben and Jerry’s.
