A Devonport couple who recently married in New Zealand are seeking to talk to Tasmanian federal members opposed or undecided on marriage equality.
Pensioners, Sandra Yates and Lee Bransden, were married in New Zealand a fortnight ago after a global fundraising campaign made the marriage possible.
Marriage was their final wish as a couple because Lee has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Marriage equality advocate, Rodney Croome, has written to Tasmanian members on behalf of the couple asking for an opportunity for them to tell their story.
Mr Croome said,
“Lee and Sandra’s story highlights the urgency of marriage equality for some couples, as well as the fact that the laws of foreign countries treat Australian couples with more respect than Australian law.”
