The campaign to bring about marriage equality in Australia continues with an advertisement published in Noosa Today featuring 20 local businesses expressing their support for reform.
Local ad organiser and architect Robin Bristow said he was inspired by the hugely successful corporate support advertisements featuring national and multinational companies,
“What an amazing sight it was to see 150 of Australia’s largest corporations come out in support of marriage equality”
“We wanted the chance to show that in Noosa and Queensland support for marriage equality includes businesses, large and small, that truly believe Australia is the land of the fair go”.
Wide Bay has been an Australian electorate since Federation.
Over that period its voters have typically returned a conservative local member.
The current member for Wide Bay is Nationals Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Our polling shows that marriage equality has strong support across Australia, including in regional areas such as Noosa and the electorate of Wide Bay”
“These local businesses were willing to spend their own money to support marriage equality and join a grassroots campaign for reform in the local paper”
“This ad helps to demonstrate to Mr Truss and his colleagues in regional electorates that the majority of regional voters, including those in the business community, back marriage equality”
