Advocates have welcomed an ANZ report showing marriage equality would inject over $1 billion into the Australian economy in the first year. The full report can be read HERE.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Any government that wants to improve the economy, boost small business and create jobs should support marriage equality.”
“We call on the Turnbull Government to move quickly on marriage equality to stem the tide of same-sex couples marrying overseas and ensure the wedding spend of Australian same-sex couples boosts business and jobs in Australia.”
The ANZ report was released today and is co-authored by ANZ statisticians, Cherelle Murphy & Mandeep Kaur.
The report found same-sex couples will spend at least $1 billon on their weddings in the first year after marriage equality.
On top of this, the ANZ report says the Australian economy will benefit from
– improved health outcomes for same-sex attracted people
– the welfare safety net marriage will provide same-sex partners
– a boost to consumer confidence
– greater workplace equity
– Australia improving its international reputation
Marriage equality is supported by all major Australian banks including the Commonwealth, Westpac, NAB, ANZ and St George.
