BAIRNSDALE residents angry about an editorial in their local newspaper that uses inverted commas around the word ”gay” have started a petition, arguing the punctuation marks imply that homosexuality is ”a wacky theory”.
The editorial ”A society of equals”, published in the Bairnsdale Advertiser on Monday, repeatedly uses the inverted commas as it discusses how Britain’s House of Commons has led to same-sex marriage being ”in the air again”.
