LANE Cove musician Cam Nacson is not afraid to use his art to champion matters of the heart.
The talented singer, songwriter and producer has collaborated with peers and friends to produce a song and YouTube clip which have been adopted as an official anthem for marriage equality.
The clip is an Australian cover of Macklemore’s hit Same Love and it has already exceeded 20,000 views on the video-sharing site.
Nacson said he had been a fan of the song since watching the original recording’s video on YouTube.
When the song, which champions marriage equality, was released in Australia and reached No.1 on the ARIA charts, he saw an ideal opportunity to produce a reworked version targeted to Australians.
He got together with local hi- hop artist L-FRESH the LION to rewrite the lyrics with references to Australians.
Friends were recruited to sing and play on the track alongside the two collaborators and the song was recorded and shot by cinematographer Robbie Walcott.
Mr Nacson said he has long been a supporter of same-sex marriage and was thrilled with the song’s success, including Marriage Equality Australia adopting the tune as its official anthem.
“I’d like to get as many people as possible to view the video and give their voice to show the politicians this is an issue that’s not going to go away,” he said.
