- COUPLES INTENDING TO MARRY IN A.C.T. AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS
- WEDDINGS WILL BRING EQUALITY ONE STEP CLOSER REGARDLESS OF COURT DECISION
Same-sex couples intending to marry in the ACT from Saturday are available for interviews. Please contact Australian Marriage Equality deputy national director, Ivan Hinton, for more information.
Mr Hinton is also planning to marry his fiancé, Chris Teoh, on Saturday.
Same-sex marriages are due to begin at 12.01am this Saturday. The High Court has reserved its decision on a constitutional challenge to the ACT’s Marriage Equality Act until December 12, giving couple at least five days to tie the knot.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Australia’s first legal same-sex marriages will mark a turning point in the national debate.”
“When Australians see these weddings on the TV news it will be obvious that this reform is ultimately not about politics or the law, but about values we all share like love, commitment and family.”
“Whatever the High Court decides, marriage equality will come one step closer this weekend.”
