Unanimous decision shows support high in rural Australia.
Advocates have welcomed support for marriage equality from the Council of the rural NW Victorian shire of Buloke.
At last night’s Council meeting a motion was passed unanimously that supports marriage equality and commits the Council to writing to the federal government urging it to pass the reform.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“The Buloke Council’s support for marriage equality shows the reform has strong support in rural as well as urban Australia.”
“I commend Buloke Council for its leadership on this important reform.”
On Tuesday the Launceston City Council threw out a similar motion despite a majority of aldermen supporting marriage equality.
Today, the Hobart Mercury reported that the Hobart City Council will soon consider similar motion.
