Marriage equality is in the best interests of children
Marriage equality advocates have congratulated Senator Penny Wong and Sophie Allouache on the arrival of their second child, Hannah.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Together with many other Australians, I send my best wishes to Penny and Sophie on the arrival of their second daughter, Hannah, and to their first daughter, Alexandra, on the arrival of her new little sister.”
“Same-sex couples raising children is a reality of contemporary Australian life.”
“The challenge currently facing the federal parliament is to allow Hannah, Alexandra and the many thousands of other Australian children in the care of same-sex couples the chance to have married parents.”
“Studies from countries with marriage equality show marriage can give the children of same-sex couples a greater sense of stability, inclusion and affirmation.”
“That is why everyone with a genuine interest in the best interests of Australian children should support marriage equality.”
