Advocates have welcomed unanimous support for marriage equality from the Gosford City Council in NSW.
Gosford Council passed a marriage equality motion last night to cheers from a packed public gallery.
The councillor behind the successful motion, Gabby Bowles, told the Daily Telegraph,
“As a parent I have not had the experience of one of my children coming out but I would like to think they had love and support.”
“We are opening our arms and opening our hearts and saying loudly we are supporting the same sex community.”
Australian Marriage Equality, national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Over forty councils around Australia have said ‘yes’ to marriage equality, sending a strong message to the federal government to stop delaying and move the reform forward.”
Gosford Council will now write to state and federal MPs informing them of its support for marriage equality.
