Ad sends message to Nikolic / Hutchinson that support for reform is growing.
Thirty three Northern Tasmanian businesses have declared their support for marriage equality in an advertisement in today’s edition of the Launceston Examiner.
Organiser of the ad, and Launceston businessman, Rick Marton, said,
“I’m very proud that so many local businesses have shown their support for marriage equality so that this issue can be taken off the agenda and we can all move forward.”
“These businesses are publicly declaring that if you’re in a same-sex relationship, whether you’re a customer or a staff member, your relationship is equal.”
“This has a positive impact on staff productivity and comfort for customers to know that they won’t be judged.”
“Keep in mind this is not to create a new law or a law that gives others preferential treatment, it’s to give all relationships equal access to the same legal protections.”
“If any other local businesses want to show their support they can contact me.”
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said
“This ad is part of a national campaign which has already seen hundreds of businesses, large and small, lend their support to marriage equality.”
“The ad sends a clear message to local federal MPs, Andrew Nikolic and Eric Hutchinson, that there is strong support for marriage equality in their electorates and we urge them to vote for reform when the time comes.”
Since the publication of today’s ad another twelve more businesses have indicated their support for marriage equality. A further ad is planned for August.
