Supporters of marriage equality in the Brisbane electorate of Bowman have been urged to show their support for the reform by attending a provisional voting day at the office of local member, Andrew Laming, tomorrow afternoon.
Mr Laming is conducting an electorate-wide survey which he says will determine his vote on the issue. He will open his office on Thursday August 6th from 4pm to 6pm for those who did not receive a survey but would like to vote.
Tracie Harrington, spokesperson for Bowman for Marriage Equality, said
“There is strong support for marriage equality in Bowman but every day I come across people who didn’t receive a survey and haven’t been able to express their support.”.
“It is very important that the community takes advantage of Andrew Laming’s voting day to show him that Bowman is a fair-minded community and it is time to make a change.”
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“Support for and against marriage equality in parliament is finely balanced so it’s vital that undecided MPs like Andrew Laming hear from the majority of their voters who support marriage equality.”
“This is an opportunity for everyday Australians to influence the political process and really make a positive difference.”
