Labor’s Left faction will confront Julia Gillard at next month’s ALP national conference on the key policy areas of gay marriage, uranium sales to India and refugees, while also pushing her to go further on party reform.
A meeting of 150 national Left delegates yesterday rejected the Prime Minister’s proposal that MPs should have a conscience vote on any future private member’s bill for gay marriage.
The faction will press for the platform to be changed to support marriage equality and for that to be binding on MPs.
